14/02/2017 - Press Release: 2017 Formula Student Competition Participation
UoP Racing Team is now setting things into motion regarding its participation in the Formula Student competitions of 2017. Having prepared themselves properly and effectively in the previous months, the team members managed to be on point during the qualifying quizzes, which led to the team qualifying for several FS competitions of 2017, while surpassing some top tier teams in the process. UoP Racing Team is also one of the Greek FS teams with the most successful qualifications to FS events this year.
After taking into account the pros and cons of each competition, the team reached the decision of competing in the IMechE Formula Student 2017 competition, held in Silverstone, July 20 to July 23 and in the Formula Student Germany e.V. 2017 competition, held in Hockenheim, August 8 to August 13. These competitions are considered to be the most competitive ones in the FS calendar and attract a lot of teams that retain the top positions in the world ranking. We will work hard in the following months to ensure that we are most effective and that results are being made, with our main goal being that of representing Greece in the best way possbile, come summer of 2017.
UoP Racing Team would like to thank all of each sponsors, associates, supporters and friends for their valuable help, without which this plan would not realistic or possible at all. In addition, we would like to thank the University of Patras and especially the Laboratory of Manufacturing Systems and Automation (LMS) for their ongoing support, since the laboratory has been the team's home for almost 15 years now.

Patras International Circuit for Kart (P.I.C.K.) 2013
10/10/2013
Patras International Circuit for Kart took place for the 5th time in the city of Patras in the last weekend of September. UoP Racing Team participated successfully one more time, giving us the opportunity to present to the local people of Patras and international visitors the latest member of our racing family. The UoP4e, being the first electric Formula SAE racecar designed and manufactured entirely by university students in Greece, got the attention of both visitors and presenters of the event and was cheered during some demo laps during Sunday.
This year Aristotle Racing Team (ART) participated at the event too, and we all had the chance to meet and exchange useful knowledge with other Greek students.

Formula Electric
Italy 2013
10/10/2013
UoP Racing Team competed this year with the team’s first electric racecar (the only racecar its' kind in Greece) in Formula Electric Italy 2013 held and organized by ATA and took place on September 13 - 16, 2013 in the Varano de' Melegari Circuit.
Participation to the FSE 2013 made us more confident with ourselves that we could meet our expectations for a great performance in Italy. Once again, the overall result of 16/24 in the electrical propulsion category is not what the team was aiming for, despite the fact that we achieved higher scores that Germany in almost every category of the competition.
Every aspect of the technical inspection procedure (Electrical scrutineering, Technical inspection, Noise test, Tilt test, Rain test and Brake test) was successfully passed on the very first attempt, proving that the vehicle was really well prepared. On the other hand, due to some organization problems of the competition, the technical inspection was delayed for our team, making it impossible to complete all safety tests but e-scrutineering the first day.
That led the team to the second day of the competition, the Static Events day, where we passed BPP (Business Plan Presentation) judging, Cost judging and Engineering Design judging plus the rest of technical inspection tests. Best result for us: 5th place on the Cost Analysis Event, rewarding the great efforts of the team members the whole season. Engineering Design Event resulted quite a high score for the team, considering the limited amount of self-developed electrical components and our main design goal for simplicity of the car. For the BPP, a new approach was decided and executed but again, it didn't seem to attract the judges. Taking advantage of a tiny gap on our schedule, we managed to spend some time on the test area that revealed some minor problems on our electronics configuration, which were immediately resolved.
With the dynamics events starting the next day, our first goal was to achieve participation to every event as Skidpad and Acceleration were held simultaneously in the morning, with Autocross in the evening. The main concern about acceleration event, power limitation violation, was successfully drawn away but the final results were not so good, compered to the amazing 3.21s of the winner team from ETH Zurich. Skidpad was the first event where we faced the difficulties of running under rainy conditions and consequently we didn't achieved the best that we could. The weather was against the team's attempts for the rest of the day and with no test area available we headed to the queue for autocross under heavy rain. Our first attempt was held under extremely bad conditions that made it difficult for the driver to push to the limit while the second went bad due to an electronic system's malfunction. At the the end of the day, shocking wet team members prepared the car for the endurance session of Monday's morning.
With a clear sky and great weather conditions, team was ready to achieve a great finish to the endurance event. Unfortunately, track layout issues, that other teams faced too, and differential misbehavior didn't let us complete more than 6 laps before being black flagged for "destroying" the track. Track marshalls were very strict and despite the general sense among teams that track design was limiting our efforts, their decision was final.
To sum up, the team is extremely happy passing all inspections on the first go and having a trouble free competition, as well as with comments and general interest on our car. However, competition organisational issues and track marshall decisions left the team with really bad impressions. The team was overly disappointed with the performance; a general feeling that we were not close to the actual car potential left a bitter taste to all team members. Now the team focuses all its strengths to a great new season in 2014!

Henkel awards us for our adhesion applications
20/08/2013
During the Formula Student Electric competition at Hockenheim, the team awarded with the third place on the "Best use of Adhesives" special award, powered by Henkel. Prior to the event, we found out that we were among the 5 finalists for the Henkel Best Use of Adhesives Award! After a small presentation to the judges of the our concept for the CFRP A-Arms and the restraining system for the battery cells, we took the 3rd place award and some very good comments for the design and the implementation of the adhesion process.

Formula Student Electric (FSE Germany) 2013
15/08/2013
UoP Racing competed with the team’s first electric racecar in FSE 2013 (Tuesday, 30th of July - Sunday, 4th of August) at Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
For the 3rd time, our team participated in the generally acknowledged to be the best and toughest completion in the world. The overall result of 29/40 in the electrical propulsion category is not what the team was aiming for, but considering the impact of our battery charger malfunction and the high level of the rest of the competitors, our final classification is just a fraction of the actual car’s potential and the team is aiming for better results in the upcoming competition in Italy.
During the Electrical inspection everything went well, considering it is the first time the team was facing the strict inspection of the scrutineers, except some minor issue with the grounding of some car parts. This kept us a little back but we passed faster than teams more experienced in the e-scrutineering. Then, in the main technical inspection, we were asked to make some minor adjustments and we continued with the tilt and brake test, both accomplished without an issue. With no time to spare the team prepared for the static events of the next day. We achieved some great results in the FSE cost analysis event (10th place), while our design score reached the 28th with 80 points. Considering the limited amount of self-developed electrical components and our main design goal for simplicity of the car, the design results were better than what they look. On the other hand the presentation judges didn't seem to like our business plan...

On the dynamics, going to the charging area the day before the first dynamic event, our charger broke down, leaving us with the power we had charged before leaving Patras. The team didn't manage to solve the charging issue, so it was decided that we will run all the competition with only one charge. Nevertheless we achieved a top 10 times in acceleration, but unfortunately disqualified for drawing 1 kW more than the limit of 85kW.
In wet skidpad, an issue with the motor controller appeared and made the car unresponsive and extremely slow. This was solved partially for the autocross event where, despite the lack of power we managed to achieve a time with both drivers. Finally in Endurance, with less than 35% of charge left, we manage to complete 13/19 laps, taking advantage of regenerative braking to re-charge as possible our battery.
Despite the difficulties that team faced in Germany, the overall impression was that the car had great potential for the upcoming competition in Italy.

Formula Electric Italy 2012 withdrawal
20/09/2012
In 2011 our team made a very brave decision: to design and manufacture UoP4e, an electric formula student car in one year. The target was to have the car ready and tested by September 2012 in order to participate in Formula Electric Italy competition which was due to be held 14th-17th of September 2012.
From the very begining the team realized it would be very challenging to achieve our goal, since we faced many obstacles in designing and especially in manufacturing an e-car. These problems, along with various delays from electrical components suppliers and shortage of some special parts made the target impossible to reach. As a result, UoPRacing didn’t participate in Formula Electric Italy 2012.
Nevertheless, we have managed to bring the car to a near completion level and this fact makes 2013 a very promising year for the team. Having it ready by the first days of the next year, we will have the time to test the car and get to know it, gaining important knowledge and experience for all its systems and improving them.
We would like to thank every single person and company supported as that difficult year and promise that we are going to give our best to achieve our goals next season.

UoP Racing Team goes electric!!!
01/02/2012
We are happy to announce some great news: We go "green"!!! We are going to built an all-electric vehicle, designed to be the highest performance UoP Racing Team's car so far - yet electric. Our target is to prove that electric FSAE cars can be very exciting too, considering the fact that they are now as fast, if not faster, than the petrol cars as the technology catches up. We believe that there is an ongoing green revolution, even in automobile racing, and we are glad to be a part of that effort.
We have successfully registered for the Formula SAE Italy 2012 competition in class 1E and we are participating with UoP4e, a car designed with realistic targets, keeping in mind the difficulties an inexperienced team like ours could face building such a car. Due to the limited resources available, straightforward solutions were chosen for many parts of the vehicle. Some quick specs:
